Why I Ride: Atila Ali

Roya Ali

I’m riding in honor of my cousin, Roya Ali, who lost her battle with Ovarian Cancer in January 2016 at the age of 38. She was an amazing person, always having a smile on her face and was strong in the face of incredibly tough odds. I still to this day draw strength from her example. She fought so hard, even until her last breath. I miss her daily, but I know she’s in a better place.

Last year I found out about this charity late in the game and signed up for the Wheel to Survive ride with only about 3 weeks remaining to raise funds. Even with such a short time remaining, I ended up raising over $8,000 (I was a team of one!), which was good for 4th best out of 350 riders! I was blown away by the outpouring of support and love. It inspired me and gave me the strength to ride the entire 6 hours of the charity (I was delirious at the end of it!) and I could even feel my sweet Roya cheering me on. I knew I couldn’t give up b/c Roya wouldn’t have given up. It was an amazing experience.

This year, I’ve gotten smarter and have enlisted 5 other co-workers to help me raise funds (not to mention that I’ve started this process alot earlier!!). I hope you can join me again in support of this amazing cause. We can do so much more to help.

One woman is diagnosed with ovarian cancer every 24 minutes. 22,000 women this year.

One woman dies from ovarian cancer every 37 minutes. 15,000 women this year.

Sadly, 70% of women diagnosed with ovarian cancer will die from the disease.

There is no reliable early detection test available for ovarian cancer.

These women are our mothers, daughters, sisters, cousins and friends and they deserve better. We all deserve better.

On February 26, 2017, I will be participating in Wheel to Survive representing Team Commerce Bank, an inspirational six hour indoor cycling event to raise money to help women batting ovarian cancer today and to provide research dollars for a cure. 100% of the money I raise will go to fund these programs.

Please help me reach my goal by making a tax deductible donation today. You can also help me reach my goal by sharing my page or link with your friends by email or social media. Better yet, register today and come ride with me!

Thank you for your generous support and joining me to be the difference in the fight against ovarian cancer. Our mothers, daughters, sisters and friends are counting on us. The time is NOW
